On the evening of September 11th, the enrollment ceremony and class advisor appointment ceremony for the 2023 undergraduate freshmen of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering were successfully held at the Feicui Hu Campus Science and Education Building lecture hall. The Secretary of the School Party Committee, Qin Guanglong, the Executive Vice Dean, Cong Huaiping, the Vice Dean, Zhang Dawei, as well as relevant department heads (branch secretaries), class advisors, counselors, and all new students attended the event. The ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Secretary of the College Party Committee, Zhang Jinfeng.
The event officially commenced with the solemn national anthem.
On behalf of the college, Cong Huaiping warmly welcomes and congratulates the 293 new students joining the family of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. She provided a detailed introduction to the college's development history, outstanding alumni, and other aspects, enhancing the new students' sense of belonging and pride in the college. She encouraged the new students to adhere to truth, become ethical and talented chemical engineers; to persist in efforts, becoming well-rounded professionals in the field; to embrace innovation, striving to be outstanding chemical engineers with remarkable capabilities. She urged them to be talents with ideals, courage, resilience, and dedication, allowing the brilliance of their youthful efforts to blossom in the pursuit of excellence.
Professor Cui Peng, representing the faculty, provided an overview of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering's excellent academic conditions, foundational elements, and the quality of talent cultivation. Against this backdrop, he introduced the significant importance of the chemical industry for societal development and its promising future. Professor Cui guided the new students to develop a correct understanding of the discipline of chemical engineering.
He advised the new students to quickly familiarize themselves with and adapt to university life, emphasizing that prioritizing their studies should be the primary responsibility throughout their university journey. Professor Cui encouraged students to undergo four transitions in their learning journey: from shallow to deep understanding, from unidirectional to guided learning, from acquiring knowledge to developing critical thinking, and from passive to active learning techniques. He inspired students to aspire for excellence, emphasizing the pursuit of practical innovation.
Representatives Kong Shuai from the Chemical Engineering Class of 2020-1 and Zhu Yixiang from the Polymer Materials and Engineering Class of 2023-2 delivered speeches on behalf of the existing students and the new students. They shared their experiences in academic and daily life, as well as their aspirations for the future university journey.
At the conference, the ceremony for the appointment of class advisors for the new students was held. Qin Guanglong and Cong Huaiping presented appointment letters to the attending class advisors and took a commemorative photo together.
Zhang Jinfeng emphasized that the new students are destined to march forward with the new era, bearing significant responsibilities in this flourishing era. He hoped that the new students would deeply understand and grasp the trends of the times and the needs of the country. He encouraged them to timely adapt to changing roles, set new goals, actively adjust to the new environment, quickly integrate into the culture of the college and the school, maintain harmonious relationships with classmates, and grow in a healthy manner.
He urged the students to have lofty aspirations, balance both virtue and talent, cultivate emotional intelligence, courageously explore new horizons, firmly establish and practice their ideals and beliefs, adhere to and refine their moral character, consciously embrace and embody the core socialist values, strengthen moral cultivation, distinguish right from wrong, study diligently, innovate bravely, stay grounded, face and overcome challenges in their growth journey, and contribute their intelligence to the country, laying a solid foundation for their future life path and serving society with an enterprising spirit. He encouraged them to present a fulfilling answer to the school, their parents, and themselves.
The enrollment ceremony is one of the educational components for new students in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, aiming to strengthen their understanding of the college. The goal is to guide the new students to uphold the college motto of "Virtue to establish knowledge, practice to seek innovation" and aspire to become comprehensive and innovative chemical engineers in the new era.
